USPAAI prepares the launch of USAP and ULAP Initiatives

On June 11, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the ground floor of the residence of Martin Romualdez 1985 in Malacañang, the Board of Trustees of the Upsilon Sigma Phi Alumni Association, Inc. (USPAAI) held a well-attended meeting with guests from the Los Baños Alumni Chapter and the resident chapters of Diliman-Manila and Los Baños. Trustee Charvy Parra 1989 secured the venue and handled the preparations.
The meeting covered a full agenda, including the University Students’ Assistance Program (USAP), the Upsilon Legal Assistance Program (ULAP), preparations for the Midyear Fellowship, and updates from the Association’s standing committees.
Before the meeting began, initial interviews for the USPAAI podcast initiative were conducted by Tito Mora 1978, featuring Chairman Eric Gene Pilapil 1986, President Gerry Sirios 1989, and Trustee Charvy Parra. The podcast project aims to document and share stories of alumni leadership and fraternity history.

Chairman Pilapil guided the Board through the agenda, which included reports from the Finance, Membership, Legal, IT & Communications, and Branding Committees. The Treasurer reported on the Association’s financial position, recent investment reallocations, and ongoing fund management for priority projects. The IT Committee shared progress on the development and testing of USPAAI’s digital platforms, including upsilon.com.ph and upsilonsun.com, with a public release set for June 27. The Branding Committee assigned fellows to lead projects such as the Upsilon Promenade and Kapit-Kapit monument.
Among the key highlights of the meeting were two major initiatives: the University Students’ Assistance Program (USAP) and the Upsilon Legal Assistance Program (ULAP).
USAP was presented as a structured program to assist Upsilonians in need. Initiated by Chairman Pilapil and headed by Trustee Tito Mora 1978, the program includes a loan facility, non-financial assistance such as temporary lodging in the Philippines and abroad, and a reward system for academic achievement. Fellow Bill Romero 1976 pledged a substantial amount to start the fund, continuing the same spirit with which he initiated the Upsilon Medical Assistance Program (UMAP).
ULAP, on the other hand, was introduced as the Fraternity’s legal aid initiative designed to comply with the Supreme Court’s Unified Legal Aid Service (ULAS) rule while addressing the legal needs of Upsilonians. The project was initiated by the Chairman and is being rolled out by the Legal Committee under Brod Lester Ople 2001, who will also serve as the initial triage officer. The Board approved the creation of a ULAP Steering Committee and authorized Brod Ople to represent USPAAI before the ULAS Board for accreditation and registration.
A key part of the meeting focused on the upcoming Midyear Fellowship scheduled for June 27, 2025, at the Ayala Banquet Hall, Makati Sports Club. Headed by Vice President Raul Paras 1990, the event will formally welcome new graduates from the Diliman and Los Baños chapters into the alumni fold. The fellowship will also serve as the launch venue for USAP and ULAP, as well as the public debut of USPAAI’s new digital platforms.
The meeting concluded with reports from the Diliman-Manila and Los Baños chapters, announcements of upcoming events, including a July 5 shooting competition by USPLBAA, and updates on fraternity legacy projects such as the campus map and the Leadership Center.
After the meeting, the brothers stayed for a round or two, catching up and continuing conversations well into the early morning.
