Angry Brods, Protego, DOJ Barkada win in Week 2 of Hoopsilonians basketball

The second week of the Hoopsilonians 2025 basketball tournament at the Epsilon Chi Center delivered even more intense action and camaraderie as teams came ready to build on their momentum.
Angry Brods started its campaign with a 62-54 win over the Black Team, whose lineup played without relief as it fielded only five players.
Led by Pep Sandejas ‘97 and Melvin Tan ‘97, scoring 23 and 11 points respectively, Angry Brods was simply too much for the undermanned Black Team.
Kim Yuri Quitain 2013 led the Black Team's efforts, recording a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds.
“We’re proud to start strong with a win for the Angry Brods... More than the victory, we’re grateful to be part of the Hoopsilonians’ 14th year," Sandejas said.
"This league has become more than just games—it’s a tradition that bonds different generations through basketball. With so many young players joining, I expect the competition to be even more exciting, and the spirit of brotherhood and camaraderie to continue for years to come,” he added.
Protego 86, TNE 75
Protego won its second game, defeating TNE 86-75. With a strong first half, leading by as much as 20 points, 51-31, the team was propelled by double-doubles from Jacob Ang 2018 and Jong Punzalan 2006.
Sean Aquilino 2009 added 16 for Protego.
Mikey Balilia 2010 led TNE in a losing effort, scoring 18 points.
“TNE is a well-balanced team. Our point guard, Brod Isko 2014, sets the tone by leading the offense, while Brod KV 2012 anchors us inside as a skilled and reliable big man," Gari Tiongco 2025 said on TNE's chances despite the loss.
"We also have Brod Gino Estebanlar 2018, our jack-of-all-trades—able to shoot, pass, and defend at a high level. Although we started off slow with a bittersweet loss to DOJ, I like our chances moving forward. With this kind of balance, I believe we can go far,” he added
DOJ Barkada 78, Machismo 51
In the final game, DOJ delivered a dominant performance, defeating Machismo 78-51.
With superior shooting, hitting 42 percent compared to Machismo’s 22 percent, DOJ pulled away before the end of the third quarter, leading 64-38.
Esdee Dulay 2012 led the charge with 20 points, supported by Bam Manahan 2020 with 13 points and Neil Duenas 2024 contributing 10 points.
Machismo’s standout player, Caloy Panga 2016, put up an impressive 32 points, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap as DOJ claimed a decisive victory.
