NorthComm, DOJ Barkada, Protego post opening day wins in Hoopsilonians 2025

The Hoopsilonians Hardcourt Fellowship 2025 kicked off on August 24, 2025, at the Epsilon Chi Center in UP Diliman.
This year’s tournament has eight teams vying for the championship title, uniting Upsilonians from various batches for an exciting and competitive day of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
“It's all about fellowship. At the end of the day, win or lose, Hoopsilonians is an avenue for the brods to come together. Fellowship and brotherhood,” Hoopsilonians chairman Philip Alpajora 2014 said.
In the first game, NorthCom emerged victorious with a 74-67 win. NorthCom, powered by Vonn Esteban’s 2022 19 points, dominated the second half, including a massive 29-point third quarter, to secure the win. Despite JR Dela Cruz’s 2003 13-point effort, Leads couldn’t match NorthCom’s momentum in the final stretch.
In a tightly contested second game, DOJ Barkada narrowly defeated TNE 54-53. Mikey Ballia 2010 led TNE with 19 points, but Esdee Dulay 2012 and his 19 points propelled DOJ Barkada to a dramatic one-point victory, keeping the brods on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer.
The night concluded with a commanding performance by Protego, who cruised to an 80-57 victory over Machismo. John Jacob Ang 2018 led the way for Protego with a triple-double, scoring 33 points, grabbing 13 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists, while Nicolai Ong 2023 and Hans Torrenueva 2025 scored 17 points each for Machismo.
