Pumapalo para sa Kapatiran

By now, our little group known as "Upsilonians na Pumapalo" needs no introduction. Among the many fundraisers that have come and gone in the fraternity, it has proven the most durable. The almost-monthly golf tournament among the fellows always delivers what it promises: fun with a healthy dose of competition. It is steady, well-attended, and, with Trustee Cary Calimlim at the helm, it keeps generating funds for the worthy endeavors of the fellowship. What began years ago as a playful round of golf among brothers has become a reliable engine for giving to the fraternity.

What We’ve Built So Far

The last tournament’s financial report shows just how far the event has come. Total revenue reached P2,374,500.00, with P569,500.00 from tournament fees, P755,000.00 from Vetremedica sponsors, and P1,050,000.00 from Upsilon Sigma Phi alumni and friends.

Expenses amounted to P2,363,689.00, covering all the essentials: green fees, golf carts, insurance, catering, giveaways, trophies, raffle prizes, sound system, lights, and full media coverage. Of that total, P400,000.00 went to the Philippine Eagle Foundation, and P200,000.00 to Wounded Soldiers in Battle.

After factoring in the P1,039,189.00 Vetremedica subsidy, we closed with a P1,050,000.00 net income. The goal was P2 million, but the turnout, 122 players, showed the project’s staying power and the potential to grow further.

What’s Ahead on the Fairway

Upsilonians will be playing in two events that are part of the UP Barkada golf tournaments, where other fraternities will also be playing. The Liamzon Cup will be held on October 23, 2025, at Valley Golf Club – North, followed by the Romualdez Cup on November 14, 2025, at Manila Golf Club.

But the one this coming December 2, 2025, at Riviera Golf Club, is the Pumapalo’s own. Dubbed the Red and Green Golf Tournament, this is where the Upsilonians na Pumapalo Committee are really pulling out all the stops.

The highlight of the Red and Green Tournament is the BYD SEAL 5 DM-i Dynamic Raffle. It’s what everyone looks forward to.

The BYD SEAL Raffle

The BYD SEAL 5 DM-i Dynamic is not your usual raffle car. It’s a next-generation hybrid capable of 1,000 kilometers on a full tank and charge, built for quiet, efficient performance. It’s sleek, new, and forward-looking — much like the direction we want Pumapalo Para sa Bayan to take.

We’ve printed 2,500 raffle tickets priced at P2,500 each. As of this writing, P1.6 million has already been raised from the car solicitation drive. The goal is to sell out all tickets before year-end.

The Pumapalo Para sa Bayan Raffle is open to all Upsilonians, their families, and friends. Tickets are serialized and tracked for transparency, and sales run until noon of December 2, 2025, the day of the UP Barkada Red and Green Golf Tournament at Riviera Golf Club, where the draw will be held.

Golfers who join either of the other UP Barkada golf tournaments — the Liamzon Cup and the Romualdez Cup — automatically receive one free raffle ticket per event. Those who play in both get two. All tickets, including free entries, are registered in a master list and audited before the draw, which will be livestreamed from the course and witnessed by an oversight panel.

Aside from the BYD SEAL 5 DM-i Dynamic as the grand prize, participants also stand to win TCL televisions and soundbars. Winners will be announced on fraternity platforms and contacted directly. Proceeds benefit UMAP, the Medical Fund for Wounded Soldiers, the Philippine Eagle Foundation, and I Will Serve Foundation, Inc.

Moving Forward

Our goal remains P6 million by year-end — ambitious but well within reach. With Cary Calimlim’s steady hand and the fraternity’s continued support, Pumapalo Para sa Bayan keeps proving that consistency pays off.

For many of us, Pumapalo has become part of the fraternity’s rhythm: early mornings, long drives, a few good rounds, and the quiet satisfaction of knowing that every swing contributes to something larger. When the Red and Green Tournament opens at Riviera on December 2, the course will once again fill with familiar faces, the banter of brothers, and the feeling that this — golf, service, and fraternity — has always been the right mix.

Someone will drive home in a brand-new BYD SEAL 5 DM-i Dynamic, but the bigger win will belong to UMAP and the causes that keep our fraternity’s promise of service aliv

We’ll keep showing up. We’ll keep raising funds. We’ll keep pumapalo para sa bayan.
